Brits splash out for caravan
People heading off for a caravanning holiday are spending an incredible amount of money just on supplies for the trip, a new report has shown.
Holidaymakers spend an average of £121 on things to take away with them, with six million of them splashing out upwards of £200, meaning British vacationers spend a total of £4.1 billion in preparation for their time away.
The most commonly bought items are toiletries and new clothes, with two thirds of all holidaymakers buying these according to Post Office credit card, while new beachwear, reading material and travel guides are also popular purchases.
Company head Gary Fitton commented that "people want to make sure they look their best and have fun on holiday", which means having to buy a lot of things before they travel - "spending that perhaps isn't always realised in the total cost of a holiday".
Nearly four out of five female holidaymakers spend money on clothes and toiletries before they travel, while more than half also splash out on beachwear and footwear as well as, encouragingly, on travel insurance.
More than half of all men also buy a policy for their holiday, while again new clothes and toiletries are also popular purchases - though not to the extent that they are with women.
