UK caravan trips cost too much

The high price of taking a caravan trip in Britain is driving many holidaymakers to spend their vacations abroad instead, a new survey has suggested.

Nearly two thirds of all Britons now choose to take their holidays abroad and with UK holidays having risen in price by 5.4 per cent, it is unsurprising that around a half of those who vacation overseas do so because they feel it is cheaper.

According to Egg chief marketing officer Alison Wright, a holiday can be a major expense and it is therefore unsurprising that lower prices and the advent of cheap flights have encouraged many travellers to head for foreign climes.

She warned holidaymakers not to take these savings for granted however, saying: "When deciding where to go on holiday, it is important to take into account the overall cost of the trip.

"It is not just about cheap flights and accommodation, but the additional costs that you incur when you are there…consumers need to carefully plan their budget well in advance of their trip to ensure that the impact of the holiday spend fades with the summer tan."

Many Brits are unaware of the pleasures that their own country can offer - at least two thirds of respondents did not know where the Cotswolds, Padstow, the New Forest and the Peak District are in the UK.

By contrast, Spain is the most popular foreign destination for British holidaymakers, comfortably ahead of France, the US, eastern Europe and Italy among others.
