Site helps caravanners plan trips
A new website has been launched that should provide caravanners with all the information they need to plan the perfect trip.
According to the Department for Transport (DfT), the new Transport Direct site will respond to the return to popularity of British holidays and provide all travellers with the details necessary for effectively planning such a trip.
This portal offers caravanners a variety of routes they can take to their destination, depending on the type of holiday they are looking for and advises them of potential delays they may have to watch out for such as road works.
The DfT announced: "In the past, planning the perfect holiday itinerary took a lot of time and effort.
"Even if you had access to the internet, you needed to visit many different sites. But now, just one site can do all the hard work for you: http://www.transportdirect.info."
Transport Direct works through computing over 30 million different pieces of information, including more than 27 million domestic addresses, 2,500 train stations, in excess of 330,000 bus stops and literally thousands of timetables.
By enabling more efficient planning of a caravanning trip, the website could help limit the cost of the holiday, with a recent survey by Egg suggesting that a big proportion of Brits do not vacation in the UK because they feel it is too expensive.
