Bank holiday head-start for caravanners
A large number of people planning to get away over the bank holiday weekend are set to leave home early in order to beat the traffic.
Research carried out by price comparison website Moneysupermarket found that some 28 per cent of British drivers, including many caravanners, will set off early in order to avoid getting stuck in traffic.
Many people plan on getting out of work in order to make good time travelling to their weekend destination, as 11 per cent of drivers choose to leave on Thursday, while 17 per cent will have left their work station by 3pm on Friday.
Director of insurance at Moneysupermarket Richard Mason said: "The bank holiday is always a busy time on Britain's roads and no one wants to waste half of their break stuck in traffic.
"If you are thinking of leaving in the small hours, make sure you really are alert enough to drive and be prepared to make regular stops. You should also ensure you have all the emergency items and details you need in case of a night-time car breakdown."
It is also important that Britons escaping for the August bank holiday weekend ensure that they have adequate caravan insurance, so any mishaps do not ruin the last long weekend of the summer.
