City workers get caravanning bonus

Some of Britain's foremost financial experts could invest their annual bonus in a caravan trip, judging by the findings of a new report.

One in three of the UK's high earners are estimated to have received this yearly lump sum during the weekend just gone by, with the majority of these expected to have picked up a payment of between £5,000 and £25,000.

Most bonus recipients already know what they want to spend theirs on, Barclays' survey illustrated, with one in eight planning to use it to fund a holiday, although most are expected to plump for longer-term investments.

Spokesperson John Williams stated: "It is encouraging that our research shows that people are intending to be responsible with spending their bonus this year and that five per cent will be getting professional advice on how to make the most out of their money."

Nonetheless, mobile home manufacturer Discover Leisure's chairman David Morrow told the Yorkshire Post last month that caravanning was becoming more popular amongst richer Brits as it was considered to be safer and more hassle-free than flying.

The caravan trip is now the UK's favourite form of domestic tourism and its improving status is highlighted by the presence of celebrity enthusiasts such as model Nelle McAndrew and music stars Lenny Kravitz and Jay Kay.
