Caravanners know how to look after their cash

Most Brits would not be inclined to go on a caravan trip if it impaired their future financial heath, judging by the findings of a recent survey.

Just over half of the UK's adult population are estimated to be cautious with and in control of their money, whereas only one in seven admit to being poor at managing their earnings and to frequently spending them unnecessary.

In the battle of the sexes, creditexpert.co.uk's study showed that it is the boys who come out top, with nearly two out of three men claiming to be adept at looking after the pennies, compared to less than half of all women.

Managing director Jim Hodgkins commented: "It's encouraging to see that the majority of Brits claim to be financially savvy and careful with how they spend their money.

"It's important to remember that no matter what kind of financial planner you are, it pays to keep tabs on your credit status, whatever your financial traits, as your behaviour and any decisions made now can affect your future borrowing power."

There would also appear to be a north-south divide when it comes to financial management, with Scotland and Yorkshire & Humberside having the highest proportion of careful savers, while Londoners are the most likely to fritter away their cash.

A recent survey by Yorkshire Bank showed that one out of three Brits booking a holiday in January put the cost of their trip on credit, while a report last summer by moneysupermarket.com estimated that the average traveller puts £800 on their card.
