Don't let Valentine's Day caravan trip end in heartbreak
A romantic caravan trip for two could prove ideal for many couples this Valentine's Day, but new figures suggest that it may prove unwise to put the cost of the holiday on credit.
One in four pairings admit that they argue over financial matters and one in 20 even break up over them, a problem that is particularly common among young couples and also among those with children.
Yet money matters are most divisive for Britons with debt difficulties, according to creditexpert.co.uk's index, with over half of all couples in arrears rowing over cash and more than one in eight ending their relationship as a result.
Managing director Jim Hodgkins commented: "The index underlines just how many couples in Britain argue and in some cases split up over their finances.
"It's hardly surprising that 18-34 year olds - those most likely to be first-time buyers in the property market - feel the pinch and argue the most. What is sad is the number of children affected."
Caravanning is increasing in popularity and status, accounting for roughly one in five UK holidays taken at the moment and many Brits may therefore decide that a trip would make the perfect present for a loved one on February 14th.
However, given the amount of heartache that money troubles can cause, they need to take care how they finance their break as a recent survey by Yorkshire Bank shows that one in three holidays booked early in 2007 have been financed with a credit card.
