South Tyneside Council 'may sell caravan park'
South Tyneside Council is set to sell off a caravan site in the region, according to a local news source.
The Shields Gazette comments that it has seen confidential documents which outline plans to sell Sandhaven Caravan Park to Hexham-based company Northumbrian Leisure Limited.
It added that details had been kept secret due to the commercial sensitivity of the deal, set to be sold for £1.2 million.
Plans already drawn up by the would-be acquirer involve a revamp of the park and a new section where people can buy motor homes.
An increase in security could result in caravan insurance companies cutting the cost of their policies in order to match the decreased threat.
The Gazette comments that the dossier contains the council's thinking behind the sale.
"[It] represents the best consideration reasonably obtainable for the land...The council will not lose any significant revenue stream as a result of the sale," read the notes.
Meanwhile, the Citizen reports that a 30-year-old man is in hospital following a caravan fire.
The blaze broke out early yesterday morning at a farm on Lodge Lane in Stansted.
