Importance of caravan insurance highlighted
The importance of specialist caravan insurance, which also covers any expensive items, has been highlighted by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Although home insurance will cover contents while the caravan is in situ and motor insurance will cover contents when driving, specialist insurance is always needed to cover the shell of the caravan, according to the ABI.
If travelling with items that are more expensive than policy limits for general items, it is important to get them listed individually on either home or caravan insurance policies, recommended an ABI spokesperson.
The spokesperson for ABI also explained that insurance was needed to cover caravans against extreme weather conditions, adding that flood damage was standard on most policies.
"It looks like we're only going to get more extreme weather conditions with climate change," she said.
Statistics from the Caravan Club show that half of all people living in the UK have gone on a caravan holiday at some point, as caravanning has shown to be the most popular form of paid holidaying in the UK.
The British Holiday and Home Parks Association recently revealed figures that back this research up. It found that caravan parks contribute £3.1 billion to the annual tourism income.
