Application for site extension 'by popular demand'
The owner of a caravan site close to Banchory has applied for permission to extend its grounds in order to meet consumer demand, it has been reported.
According to the Evening Express, Phillip Stewart would like to add another ten motor homes to Stewartfield Caravan Park in Strachan.
He reasons that the application to Aberdeenshire Council is down to an increasing demand for caravanning as more and more people are taking domestic vacations.
"People come for all types of things, it's very popular for hillwalking, fishing and golfing. There is starting to be more demand for spaces because people are staying in Scotland rather than getting out of the country and going abroad," he said.
However, it may be that those who use the site find that their caravan insurance policies go up as a result of the move.
This is because some cover firms could consider the increased volume of vehicles representative of a bigger risk.
This comes as the Journal reports that a £5 million holiday park extension programme has got underway at Golden Sands Holiday Park in Northumberland.
