Caravans 'a bit hit in Netherlands'
The Dutch are among the world's biggest caravan fans, according to a new report.
Global news agency Reuters states that the package holidays and cruises abroad are simply not as appealing to people in the Netherlands as time away with the family in a motor home.
It comments that on any caravan site in the world, probably, there is a Dutch caravaner enjoying themselves.
The fate of Kip Caravans proves how popular the vehicles are in the country, as the firm was recently helped avoid bankruptcy by a previous owner with a passion for the vehicle.
Marteen de Roos, director of the company, jokes that he may have even been conceived inside a caravan, as he is such a fan, Reuters adds.
An increase in the number of caravans in the country could also have an effect on the cost of a caravan insurance policy there, as firms could choose to increase prices if they believe there is a significant risk to vehicles.
"We think there is a beautiful future for caravans," he said. "We expect sales to go up in the second half of this year."
This comes as Clarion Events has announced that it has just completed a deal with the NEC to host its International Caravan & Motorhome show at the venue until 2010.
