Vacationers 'are not taking out insurance'

People in the UK are not covering themselves when they leave to go on holiday, it has been reported.

According to statistics from Nationwide, 35 per cent of people do not take out an insurance policy when they head abroad.

This means that they may be leaving themselves exposed to a disaster should they be robbed or become ill while away.

Caravan Insurance

For people heading on a camping trip, a caravan insurance policy or backup tent may also be a good idea.

If they do not, it may be that they find themselves paying out to repair damage or replace equipment.

Robin Bailey, director of insurance at Nationwide, remarked that people should "always" consider taking out annual cover for their trips.

"It is astounding that people are prepared to take such a gamble when traveling abroad. You never know what's around the corner and for that reason it is vital that you have adequate travel insurance in place," said the official.

This comes as Nationwide has announced that it will be making pensions products from Legal & General available to its customers.
