New solar panels 'power self-sufficient vehicles'
Holidaymakers in the UK may soon be able to take breaks in self-sufficient vehicles thanks to a new technological advancement, it has been reported.
The Herald comments that Ayrshire-based Amperor has developed stick-on cardboard solar panels for powering caravans and is looking to launch them for consumers before the end of 2008.
It may be that once installed, the feature sees people save money on electricity and gas bills - a welcome addition for those struggling to pay other motor home bills including caravan insurance.
Ray Herbert, founder of the Scottish electronics firm, was inspired after a vacation in the US.
He said: "I made a trip to America, visited one or two people, and managed to find a technology that I wanted which is very new and which is pretty well ideal for what people want in leisure vehicles."
Visitors to the Birmingham NEC later this month for the National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Show will be able to view some Volvo vehicles.
The Swedish car manufacturer has announced that it is to be showing off automobiles it believes are perfect for caravan-towing.
