Public pressure sees caravan plans collapse
Opposition from residents in the north-east has seen plans to build a caravan site abandoned, it has been reported.
According to the Northern Echo, officials at Darlington Borough Council have opted against the plan to convert the brickworks close to Hurworth.
Were it to go ahead, the site would have included a café, recreation area and tennis courts, while it would have had enough space for 80 caravans.
Such a scheme may have seen caravan insurance policies in the area go up, as firms could see the increased number of motor homes as an indicator of a larger risk of damage.
However, the canning of the project has been criticised by Susan Ashmore, representative of developers Ward Hadland Associates.
"The caravans are beautiful, luxury static caravans costing thousands of pounds. The site will primarily be targeted at middle aged or elderly couples. That could only benefit the local community," she said.
Meanwhile, a family in Wales which won close to £7 million on the lottery has bought three caravans.
The Prances are to move to Trecco Bay park permanently due to their love of the holiday style.
