Motor homes sold in record amount over 2007

More motor homes were sold during 2007 than over the previous year, according to new industry figures.

Statistics released by the Motorhome Information Service that there was a 5.2 per cent rise in sales recorded over the period, with 11.646 vehicles sold.

It may be that the increase in motor homes sold prompts a rise in caravan insurance sales, as people looking to get their vehicle covered before they head out on holiday.

The firm commented that there may also be a rise in the amount of people visiting caravan shows and looking at new vehicles.

"Clearly it has become the leisure vehicle of choice and there are bound to be plenty of people new to motorhomes who will want to come and see what it's all about," commented the company.

This comes as the Herald reports on an innovative product which cuts the power being used by caravans and makes them self-sufficient.

According to the news source, Ayrshire-based Amperor has developed cardboard-thin panels which maximise vehicle power.

The firm is hoping to distribute the product nationally before the end of the year, it adds.
