Caravan fire 'badly damages homes'
A fire which started in a caravan spread to nearby homes and led to nine people being evacuated, it has been reported.
The BBC states that the blaze started at the motor home on Viola Road in Port Talbot on Wednesday and badly damaged four houses in the area.
According to Mark Griffiths from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, if it was not for a smoke alarm alert people of the blaze in the early hours, there may have been serious injuries.
However, it may be that the owners of the caravan where the fire started find that they have difficulty taking out a cheap caravan insurance policy in future, as cover companies could see them as a risk.
Detective Inspector David Rees from Neath Port Talbot CID told the BBC that officials are now investigating the cause of the incident.
"We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity or who saw anyone tampering with the caravan parked outside the property between midnight and 05:10 GMT," he said.
Earlier this month, an arson attack in Broadhempston saw a caravan completely destroyed, reports the Herald Express.
