Officials turn down caravan park plan

The ramifications on people in Northumbria were cited as a major factor in local officials' decision to reject planning plans for a Cresswell caravan park, according to a local news source.

A report in the Morpeth Herald states that Northumbrian Leisure, the firm behind Golden Sands Holiday Park, was in discussions to allow 50 of its caravans to be occupied for 11 months of the year.

Dr Phil Kirkwood told the news source that the quality of life for people in the area risked being compromised in the event that the plans be approved.

It may be that the increased frequency of caravan occupation would have led to a higher number of caravan insurance claims, as there could have been a greater chance of an accident.

But Tony Woodcock, a planning consultant in the region, commented that "there is not one objector of the Parish Council suggesting a single adverse impact on the community from the extended season".

This follows a report in the Lowestoft Journal that Oulton Broad officials are looking to introduce 50 new holiday lodges to the area.

However, local residents are said to be against the idea.
