Recommendation sought for Duke's caravan park

A company owned by the Duke of Northumberland is looking to receive approval to set up a caravan park in the area, it has been reported.

Northumberland Estates is looking for planning permission for the 100-pitch site despite opposition to it in the past, according to JournalLive.

In October, a proposal for 140 touring and static caravans was turned down after over 60 objections, despite the fact that it had received council recommendation, the news source added.

Caravan insurance companies may be forced to increase their prices when covering vehicles in the region as the larger number of motor homes could be seen as representative of an increased risk of damage.

Estates planner Barry Spall believes the latest application takes into account the needs of local people, however.

"We are pleased with the second recommendation for approval. We recognise there was local opposition to the original scheme and there is to the second but the revised scheme has taken on board the concerns of residents from the first time round," the official commented.

This comes as Morpeth councillors have turned down an application for Golden Sands Holiday Park to be given permission to let people occupy 50 of their caravans for 11 months of the year, the Morpeth Herald has reported.
