Investigation into caravan allocations begins

Officials in the East of England are to address the number of allocated caravan pitches in the area as part of an investigation, it has been reported.

According to the Hunts Post, the 12-week consultation has been set up by the Government Office for the East of England (GO-East) and is looking for local people to have their say.

It may be that an increase in the number of caravans in the region leads to a rise in caravan insurance costs.

This is because some cover firms could see the greater amount as indicative of a greater risk of damage to motor homes.

And the news source added that recommendations put forward so far include plans for greater pitch allocations for 48 areas by 2011.

Councillor John Reynolds, chairman of the East of England Regional Assembly, surmised the situation.

"Travellers want somewhere legal to live, and local communities want to avoid the problems of illegal sites," said the official.

Meanwhile, the Shields Gazette states that residents at a Northumbrian Leisure-owned caravan park are annoyed that officials at the park have increased rents by 25 per cent in addition to implementing a £700 exit fee.
