Northants amusement park makes caravan bid

An amusement park in Northamptonshire has submitted a planning application to include caravans on its site, a news source in the area has reported.

The Northants Evening Times has claimed that officials at the attraction would like to install 25 static motor home plots, in addition to 100 touring caravan spaces.

Site managing director John Roberts said that this is part of a plan to make the park more appealing to people in the region looking to visit.

"One of our objectives is to get Wicksteed better recognised for what it is, which is Northamptonshire's leading visitor attraction," said the official.

Further attractions to be added to the site include a new £500,000 log flume and water chute, set to be installed over the course of the summer, the news source added.

Wicksteed Park is thought to be the UK's oldest park of its kind, having been opened by Charles Wicksteed in 1921.

Also of historical significance is the Water Chute, which is situated at the park and was originally built in 1916.

It is thought that over one million people visit Wicksteed Park each year.
