Lowestoft park bid accepted
Councillors in Lowestoft have accepted a private bid for a caravan park in the area, it has been reported.
According to the Lowestoft Journal, the North Denes caravan site will be reopened by the bidder by summer 2009 at the latest.
Stephen Ardley, council portfolio holder for operations and facilities, believes that the move represents a "positive step forward", the news site added.
This follows an issue raised with Waveney District Council by Protect Our North Denes Association, which believed that the area could not be sold as it was owned by the taxpayer.
But Mr Ardley added that the region stands to benefit once the private bidder takes over.
"Once the new operator is in place, it will be much better for the north end of Lowestoft and especially for the high street traders," said the official.
Meanwhile, caravan dwellers in South Tyneside have been hit with an increase in prices following a change in ownership at a motor home park.
The South Shield Gazette states that people living in Sandhaven Park have been asked to pay 25 per cent extra in rent and a £700 fee.
