Motor home damaged as severe weather hits South Yorkshire

Severe winds in South Yorkshire have caused a caravan at a motor home park in the area to become damaged, according to a local news source.

The Star reports that gales at Mill House Caravan Park in Askern, Doncaster were so strong that a willow tree was knocked over onto a motor home, crashing through the vehicle.

Inside the caravan was Jenny Ratcliffe, who was asleep at the time, with the news source claiming that she had a "lucky escape".

However, it may be that she now has to claim on her caravan insurance policy if she is to get her vehicle fixed or replaced completely.

Site owner Ray Smith said that Ms Ratcliffe "was in bed and the tree came down through the roof".

He added that nobody else was hurt and that Ms Ratcliffe will be rehoused until her vehicle is repaired.

Meanwhile, the National Caravan Council has commented that there were some 520,000 touring caravans in the UK in 2000.

In addition, there were 108,000 motor homes in use across Britain over the same year.
