Volvo technology 'good news for caravan insurance holders'

Caravan insurance customers are likely to benefit from new technology introduced by Volvo.

The car maker has announced the inclusion of Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) as one of the key features of the latest Volvo model.

According to the manufacturer, the Volvo XC60's TSA technology aids the towing of a caravan by dampening "oscillation tendencies" that could arise.

It works by acting in the event of a caravan starting to sway when driving conditions are less than favourable.

When swerving starts, TSA effectively takes over the braking of the vehicle doing the towing, by means of coordination with the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) of the Volvo.

The system also allows the reduction of the engine's torque, which offers greater control of the caravan being towed.

Lars Blenwall, Volvo XC60 project director, suggested caravan insurance customers driving the car will benefit from enhanced feelings of safety, control and "relaxed comfort".

He added: "The car handles sharply and behaves exactly as you would expect whatever the situation."

The Modeo Titanium X Estate holds the title of 2008 Towcar of the Year, according to the Caravan Club.

It topped the list of 36 participants in testing held at Bedfordshire's Millbrook Proving Ground.
