Creswell caravan site given extra time

Authorities have given a caravan site in Morpeth an extended period of time in which it can make 25 motor homes available to visitors, a local news source has commented.

Morpeth Today has reported that Golden Sands Holiday Park bosses have been awarded a new deal which means they can keep vehicles occupied for up to 11 months per year.

However, the rules state that visitors in the motor homes are not allowed permanent residency and that they should only be occupied for holiday purposes, according to the news source.

It may be that the new extension, which lasts until 2010, sees an increase in the price of caravan insurance for people staying at the site, as cover companies could view the extra vehicles as indicative of a bigger threat.

According to councillor Frank Harrington from the Development Services Committee, permission for the longer period was given due to official regulation on the matter.

He said: "Repeated temporary consents should not be given according to government guidelines and so unless significant harm can be demonstrated we should award permanent consent."

This comes as Mr J Murchie from Blackwaterfoot has been told that he cannot use his land close to Drumadoon Bay in order to set up a static caravan site, the Arran Banner has reported.
