Windermere caravan site gets the green light to open longer
A caravan site in Windermere has been given the go ahead to open for longer, it has been reported.
The North West Evening Mail has stated that Park Cliffe Caravan and Camping Estate on Birks Road can now change its opening date from March 1st to January 16th.
But this might mean that people with motor homes who use the site find that the cost of their caravan insurance policies goes up.
This is because cover companies could consider the increase in vehicles indicative of a greater threat of damage.
David McGowan, head of development management, comments to the Development Control Committee that while some people objected to the plan, the main issue was "whether the principle of moving the closed season is acceptable".
The official put forward a recommendation for approval, but with conditions, with the committee agreeing.
Meanwhile, the Lowestoft Journal has reported that a government investigation is to look into the amount of money spent defending a plan to sell two caravan parks.
Some £400,000 in taxpayers money was spent by officials trying to offload sites at Southwold Harbour and North Denes to private companies.
