Caravan protection 'washed away in storms'

A shingle bank which protects a caravan site housing 2,200 motor homes has been washed away in severe storms in Selsey, it has been reported.

The Bognor Regis Observer has stated that the 800-metre section of land was destroyed in heavy rain and wind over the last few days, with 50 caravans seriously damaged in the process.

It may be that people who own motor homes in the region find that their caravan insurance policies become severely compromised by the incident.

Furthermore, it may be that companies choose not to offer cheap deals to people with vehicles in the area as they could consider them a risk to cover.

According to the news source, officials from the Environment Agency are trying hard to set the shingle bank at Medmerry beach up again.

"The cost of replacing the shingle following yesterday's storm will run into hundreds of thousands of pounds and there are no guarantees that we won't see a repeat of this storm event in the near future, causing it all to be lost again," said James Humphreys from the Environment Agency Solent & South Downs Area Manager.

Severe weather has also resulted in Birmingham, Leeds-Bradford and Manchester airports cancelling flights.
