Grant given for Great Yarmouth caravans

Extra caravans are to be expected in Great Yarmouth following a new council grant, it has been reported.

The Yarmouth Mercury has stated that officials have awarded £1.34 million to construct six extra caravan plots along with van spaces at a site on Gapton Hall Road.

Measuring 15 by 30 metres, the plots are large enough to house a 26 foot long caravan or a large lorry, the news source added.

It may be that the presence of extra motor homes gives cover companies the opportunity to increase caravan insurance policies in the area.

This is because they could view the vehicles as indicative of a greater risk for owners.

In addition to the new plots, the publication has stated that toilet blocks are also to be constructed, each a cubicle with its own washbasin.

And the changes are good news, according to Labour county councillor Breydon Trevor Wainwright.

He said: "Anything that reduces the number of unauthorised encampments is to be welcomed."

Meanwhile, businessman George Campbell has opted to construct a caravan site on Winscales Moor near Workington, rather than a four-star hotel as had been previously discussed.
