Flooding threat 'may stop caravan storage yard development'

Officials in Scotland are looking to shelve plans to develop a caravan storage site in Galashiels due to an environmental risk, according to a national news source.

The BBC has reported that the 46 apartments set to be built on the former storage yard may not come to fruition after a new paper has highlighted the damage it could cause.

A report produced by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency for Scottish Borders Council has claimed that the development could potentially result in flooding in the area.

Furthermore, should the plans go ahead it could also be that properties on and around Huddersfield Street become damaged due to the rising flood plain levels they would cause.

It may be that flooding proves to be a serious problem for those with caravan insurance, as motor homes could become damaged due to the problem, causing people to make claims.

The news comes after the Halifax Evening Courier has reported that a caravan storage site in Yorkshire is to be shut down.

Council officials have told Anthony and Paula Briggs to cease operations at Pepper Hill Farm as they do not have planning permission.
