More people 'considering UK holidays'
Concerns about climate change are causing more Brits to consider holidaying in the UK instead of abroad, according to the British Resorts and Destinations Association.
Director Peter Hampson said that while holidaymakers are not abandoning foreign travel altogether, increasing numbers are choosing to take a break on British soil.
"We're talking about people thinking twice about whether to take two foreign holidays or maybe have a UK holiday instead," he remarked.
As well as environmental concerns travellers are also rejecting overseas holidays because they are "fed up" with the chaos at the country's airports, Mr Hampson said.
Indeed, a caravanning holiday in the UK could be much more relaxing than taking a long flight to a foreign destination and many prefer the freedom it offers.
According to the Highways Agency, some 20 per cent of all holidays taken in the UK are taken in caravans and the organisation is urging anyone towing one this summer to adhere to safety guidelines.
Keeping on top of simple maintenance and making regular vehicle checks are essential, as is caravan insurance to cover against accidents and damage.
