Outdoor holidays 'great' for families on a budget

People looking to take a break on a budget should consider a holiday on a camping or caravan site, it has been claimed.

The British Resorts & Destinations Association (Brada) has reported that recent research from Barclay's Bank shows that seven per cent of the British population are regular campers.

It added that people spend an average of £382 each year on equipment for such holidays.

As a result, it may be a good idea for those who enjoy the trips to take out thorough camping or caravan insurance policies, in order to cover their goods should they be stolen or damaged.

Peter Hampson, Brada director, remarked that a holiday on a campsite is a cheap option for people without ties, as well as for small families.

"You only have to pay your site fees - food you would need anyway - so it is significantly cheaper than paying hotel fees," the expert remarked.

This comes as the News & Star has reported on the launch of Cumbria Tourism's Caravan, Camping and Holiday Home Guide 2008.

Chief executive Ian Stephens said that holidays outdoors represent a great time to relive childhood memories.
