Holiday park goes green to cut emissions

A caravan park in Devon has decided to go green in an attempt to improve its environmental efficiency, it has been reported.

The Exmouth Journal has stated that Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is looking to alleviate its carbon footprint by incorporating a number of eco-friendly measures.

Some 3,000 light bulbs in 450 caravans have been switched to environmentally-friendly versions at a cost of £4,500, while showers in vehicles have been fitted with a 'resistor' which helps save water, the news source added.

Furthermore, the publication stated 16 of the caravans on the site have switched to using bio-diesel produced from cooking oil used at the park over the last 12 months.

If the caravan insurance industry follows the lead of the car cover sector it may be that visitors soon experience cheaper policies as a result of their eco-friendly caravanning decisions.

Meanwhile, eco-conscious caravanners could also choose to visit the Green Caravan Park, located close to Shrewsbury and Ludlow.

The park has been voted by the readers of Practical Caravan in its top 100 sites in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2001.
